GARDENA, Calif. – April 26, 2017 – New vehicle introductions, appearances by automotive celebs, a personal retrospect, competitions and a car show will highlight the fifth annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Carroll Shelby International headquarters in Gardena, California. The Carroll Shelby Foundation, Shelby American, Carroll Shelby’s Store and Team Shelby will throw the ultimate Southern California family-friendly event to celebrate Carroll Shelby’s life and legacy.
“We feel that the best way to honor Carroll Shelby is to continue his legacy with exciting cars and events for the enthusiasts whom he loved so much,” said Neil Cummings, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International, CEO of Carroll Shelby Licensing and Co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. “On the fifth anniversary of his passing, we’ll recreate the remarkable celebration of Carroll’s life held at the Petersen Museum in 2012 with a special retrospective. It will be an incredibly uplifting day filled with many of the things Carroll loved most.”
Legends Don Prudhomme and Allen Grant Jones are scheduled to sign autographs while author Art Evans will sign copies of his book “Carroll Shelby: A Collection of My Favorite Racing Photos”, which he began with Mr. Shelby before the legend’s passing in 2012. Attendees will also feast their eyes on some of the rarest Shelby and Ford cars with an emphasis on the birthday of the Ford Shelby GT500. Shelby American will display its latest lineup including the all-new 50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake. In addition, Shelby American will also unveil a pair of all new vehicles to the public.
“During the past five decades, Shelby American has launched many exciting vehicles at major auto shows and international venues,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International, CEO of Shelby American and Board member of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. “This year, we wanted to show our appreciation for the most ardent Shelby fans by introducing two new vehicles at the Tribute event. Carroll Shelby would’ve been pleased that we’re giving fans the opportunity to see them first.”
A new addition to the festivities will be a Carroll Shelby Foundation “game room” with a racing simulator and the “Team Shelby Racing” competition. Adults can race wheel-to-wheel on special tricycles around an autocross style course. Several high-profile races have been arranged, pitting some of the most competitive people in the world against each other.
“Carroll Shelby enjoyed life more than anyone I’ve ever known,” said Aaron Shelby, Board Member of Carroll Shelby International and Co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. “In his honor, we added several remarkable new activities to the event that will give people an opportunity to revel in that sense of abandon that energized my grandfather. With the Carroll Shelby Foundation and Team Shelby managing these activities, the day will be thrilling for everyone.”
Carroll Shelby’s Store will open its doors with its newest merchandise and original collectibles. Many of the items will be only available through the official store.
Gates open to the public free-of-charge at 9 AM PDT. Shelby and Ford performance car owners interested in displaying their vehicles at the show can register on the Carroll Shelby Tribute website. Enthusiasts across the globe are also encouraged to join the “Rev Your Engine” salute at 1 p.m. PDT.
