SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Feb. 9, 2016 – The successful results reported by Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, demonstrates the company’s dominance in the industry and the current state of the collector car hobby. With 1,469 cars selling for over $102 million (unaudited) at a 99-percent sell-through rate and many records set, 2016 Scottsdale Auction was the highest grossing auction during Scottsdale car week and one of the company’s most successful auctions in its 45-year history.
“Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale was a spectacular success,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Our sell-through for such a large number of collector cars was truly prolific. Some might be tempted to compare our 2015 auction, which included the enormous Pratte Collection, but when the Pratte Collection sales are factored out, our 2016 results proved stronger than what we did in 2015.”
In 2015, rather than holding a stand-alone auction for a private collection like many auction houses have done, Barrett-Jackson did the unimaginable and added an extra day to include the 141 Pratte Collection vehicles as a part of the flagship event. Excluding the Pratte Collection results in 2015, Barrett-Jackson saw a more than a 6-percent growth in sales in Scottsdale this year with two fewer cars sold.
Barrett-Jackson’s 45th Anniversary Scottsdale Auction set numerous published auction records for specific automobiles:
- 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach– $1,760,000 (record for 2015 Porsche 918)
- 1947 Talbot-Lago T-26 Worblaufen Cabriolet – $715,000 (record for 1947 cabriolet)
- 1939 Talbot-Lago T-15 Cabriolet – $550,000 (record for 1939 cabriolet)
- 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Smokey and the Bandit Promo Car – $550,000 (record for any Trans Am)
- 1992 Ferrari 512TR – $357,500 (record for a 512TR)
- 1972 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 – $192,500 (record for 1972 ZR1)
- 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am – $187,000 (record for 1979 Pontiac)
- 1962 Dodge Power Wagon M37B1 – $187,000 (record for any Power Wagon)
- 1944 Dodge Power Wagon Custom Pickup – $187,000 (record for any Power Wagon)
“I’m proud to have kicked off our 45th Anniversary year with such a successful event,” added Jackson. “This growth demonstrates Barrett-Jackson’s ability to continually set the bar and serve as the barometer of car collecting. I look forward to the rest of the 2016 auction season, especially as we add the inaugural Northeast Auction to our portfolio.”
